Faculty of Sciences, through the variety of fields of study that he addresses, occupies a special place in the structure of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, assuring the achievement of a performance education, developed and perfected through a complex research activity according to the exigencies and the means offered by the society knowledge.

Bachelor and master level study programs in Mathematics, Informatics, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Biology, Physical Education and Sports, respectively PhD in the field of Mathematics are working at the Faculty of Sciences.

The educational offer of the faculty aims to achieve a formative, creative, stimulating and flexible education, which integrates the results of advanced scientific research, for the training of specialists with real chances on the free labor market, contributing to the progress of the Romanian society and of the the contemporary world.

For the development of student internships, the co-financing of study programs, the awarding of study scholarships in a contractual system, partnerships with economic agents, public administration and other categories of organizations are being developed.

Students are involved in research programs conducted through the four research centers of the faculty:

• RESEARCH CENTER IN INFORMATICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

• APPLIED ECOLOGY RESEARCH CENTER

• RESEARCH CENTER FOR COMPLEX PHYSICAL SYSTEMS

• RESEARCH CENTER IN MATHEMATICS AND APPLICATIONS

The Faculty of Science, through the Department of International Relations of ULBS, has partnerships with 42 universities from 12 countries in the field of research and for the mobility of students and teachers.

The international visibility of scientific research is validated by editing scientific journals:

General Mathematics (published since 1993, indexed by EBSCO, Index Copernicus plus 15 other databases),

Transylvanian Review of Systematic and Ecological Research (edited since 1998, indexed by EBSCO, Web of Science-Zoological Record plus 30 other databases)

Acta Oecologica Carpatica (edited since 1994, indexed by EBSCO, Wrichs Web)

and the international scientific events organized periodically, among which:

• Aquatic Biodiversity International Conference,

• International Conference on Applied Informatics – ICDD,

• Modelling and Development of Intelligent Systems - MDIS,

• International Conference on Approximation Theory and Applications - ICATA.

The quality of education is an essential condition for sustainable socio-economic development.
