Profile – Faculty of Sciences
The Faculty of Sciences, through its variety of domains of study which it offers, has a special place in "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu, assuring a high educational standard, developed and improved through complex research activity, in line with the latest global body of knowledge.
The Faculty of Sciences offers programmes of study at Degree and Master level, in the following fields of specialization: Mathematics, Informatics, Environmental Sciences, Physics, Biology, Physical training and sport.
The courses that the Faculty offers place emphasis on an education which is formative, creative, stimulating and flexible, integrating the results of advanced scientific research, to prepare specialists with real chances on the labour market, which will contribute to the development of Romanian and European society.
To optimise the practical implementation of programmes for our students, co-financing of some study programs and the awarding of scholarships on contract basis, the Faculty has developed partnerships with economic institutions, public administration and other categories of organizations.
The students are involved in research programmes through the Faculty’s two research centers: the Center for Research in Communication Science and Information Technology and the Center for Research in Applied Ecology.
The Faculty of Sciences, through the International Relations Department of „Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, has partnerships with 18 universities in 9 countries, in the field of research and promoting the mobility of students and teaching staff.
The international visibility of the scientific research of our faculty members is validated through publishing various international scientific periodicals: General Mathematics (edited since 1996, indexed Zentralblatt MATH); Acta Oecologica Carpatica (edited since 1994, indexed EBSCO); and The Transylvanian Review of Systematical and Ecological Research (edited since 1999, indexed ISI Web of Knowledge, Thomson Reuters Master Journal List, Proquest, EBSCO). It is also validated through regular scientific events including: International Joint Workshop - New Trends on Univalent Function Theory and Applications; International Students Conference on Informatics – ICDD, International Conference on Modelling and Development of Inteligent Systems - MDIS; The Romanian German Seminar on Approximation Theory and its Applications; and The International Conference on Aquatic Biodiversity – ABIC.
The Faculty has as an important principle that the quality of education is an essential condition for sustainable socio-economic development.
